Venus in Aquarius

Venus

'Venus is the principle of pleasure and desire, reflecting our aesthetic values and tastes. It is our impulse to relate to others, indicating how we show love and affection and how we create common bonds.’ Carole Taylor - Astrology

Venus is the Great Goddess: for the Sumerians she was Inanna, in Babylon Ishtar and in Greece Aphrodite. She is The Goddess of beauty, sexual love and fertility.

'Venus is the principle of desire, love, beauty, value; the impulse and capacity to attract and be attracted, to love and be loved, to seek and create beauty and harmony, to engage in social and romantic relations, sensuous pleasure, artistic and aesthetic experience; the principle of Eros and the Beautiful; Aphrodite, the Goddess of love and beauty.' Richard Tarnas - Cosmos and Psyche

‘Traditionally Venus was associated with the moist and warming power that is productive of the life force, and signifies, desire, love, beauty, cleanliness, purity, and religious worship.’ Demetra George - Ancient Astrology

‘Venus Principles: Impulses toward love and friendship, harmony and pleasure, grace and beauty, forces of attraction. The Venus archetype manifests through our yearnings to love and be loved, to enjoy ourselves and bring pleasure to others and to reach out in friendship and connection. Venus rules the power of attraction, our aesthetic taste and sensuality and our capacities to act in graceful and harmonious ways with the world around us.

Venus also represents our feelings of intimacy toward the divine principle as the Beloved, and the potential for ecstatic union with it as we regain our lost wholeness.’ Renn Butler - The Archetypal Universe

Aquarius

Enter the realm of Aquarius, an air sign traditionally ruled by Saturn, that weaves threads of innovation and humanitarianism. Aquarius is known for its innovative and forward-thinking nature. In Aquarius, there is an emphasis on individuality, intellectual pursuits, and a desire to make a positive impact on society. This sign, depicted as the water-bearer pouring forth the elixir of knowledge, channels the spirit of the avant-garde, challenging norms and embracing the unconventional.

'Aquarius is the solid, yang, air temple of Saturn. In this sign, while the dark is still dominant, the light is steadily increasing from within the darkness.

The following themes are associated with Aquarius:

Potentiality and the future

The status quo vs. the ideal

Alienation, outsiders, and divine rebellion

Popularity and progress

The past vs. future

For Aquarius, the ideal might exist in a past we are trying to return to, as in “Make America Great Again,” or as in a bright future we are aspiring toward, as in the “Age of Aquarius.”

Adam Elenbaas - Nightlight Astrology

Aquarius beckons us to stand on the precipice of our uniqueness, encouraging us to peer into the vastness of our individual potential. It calls for a departure from the mundane and an embrace of the extraordinary. The Aquarian journey is one of visionary thought, where the collective consciousness is stirred, and the quest for personal growth intertwines with the pursuit of societal progress.

My experience of Venus in Aquarius

a horoscope in yellow
My birth chart

Independent Love Style: I have always been attracted to partners with a strong sense of their own selves: Who stand for what they believe in and aren't afraid to stand out from the crowd. They are non conforming. We are drawn to what we want to be until we have cultivated this in ourselves. I am Libra rising and this conflicts with my Aquarian Venus. Libra wants to smooth things over and harmonise. Libra wants to fit in. My Aquarius Venus is at a standstill in my chart - about to turn retrograde. Stationing planets are amplified - it's like there is an exclamation point on that part of the chart. This has been an inner journey. Venus rules my rising sign and my luminary (The Moon is the luminary of a night chart). Venus is strong in my chart. And my Aquarian Venus wants me to be brave enough to be myself and to stand out.

Innovative Aesthetics: I take my personal surroundings very seriously and am extremely deliberate in how my home feels and looks. I am quirky. I love seventies wallpaper but use it in my home elegantly giving it a modern twist (in my opinion anyway!). I surround myself with things I love to look at and change their location regularly so I am never bored. Deciding to redecorate and redesign a space gives me an enormous amount of joy and I have a great deal of energy for it. I'd love to do it for a job. I sourced my wallpaper from a warehouse in Germany and it's original paper from the seventies. There were only a few rolls left meaning no one can mimic my style even if they should want to! I strive to be original in my choice of décor. I am interested in fashion and would love to be able to indulge that more. The confidence to stand out is something I am growing into as I grow older.

Intellectual Connections: I identify with the label sapiosexual: I find intelligence sexually attractive/arousing. I am attracted to people who stimulate me mentally - friends and lovers. I find it difficult to pay attention when people talk about things that don't interest me but on the flipside I can talk and listen for hours when it's things I find fascinating. I hate small talk and never remember the details when the conversation is over. Mental stimulation is essential for me to feel connected and to be able to relate to another. I'm very comfortable with my own company and stimulating my own inner dialogue. I'd rather be alone and spend my time thinking and learning, than spend time with people I can't have a stimulating conversation with.

Open-minded Approach to Love: I believe love should free us to be who we are. And we are all different. I accept and celebrate all love that doesn't harm another being. I believe we should all be free to love whomever we choose. I have explored a variety of relationship models and have found that I am actually very traditional. I believe in one love. I want to give all my time and energy to one man. I want my love to give him a secure foundation to free him to be his best self and do what he wants to do in the world. I want him to feel held without bounds. Secure without constraints. Freedom for me and for him means a commitment to each other that is made every day, without expectation, with choice and free will. I want the same for myself. That's my kind of love.

Friendship as a Foundation: I have only fallen in love with people I have a solid friendship with. Friendship is essential for me to feel connected. I have to know the person deeply, without added pressure, in order to marry my head with my heart and commit to a relationship with them. And both head and heart have to be on the same page for me - I require balance and harmony. I have never been attracted to looks - I can't understand how people can make a decision based on what someone looks like when we all know how fragile that is. Everyone I love is beautiful. Every time I've fallen in love I've gazed in awe at the beauty of the person I'm with. Beautiful is so much more than skin deep.

Humanitarian Values/Unpredictable Affection/Resistance to Conformity: 'There may be a resistance to societal expectations and norms in matters of love and relationships. Venus in Aquarius individuals may challenge conventional relationship standards and opt for arrangements that align with their personal values, even if they deviate from traditional expectations.'

Here's where my Aquarian weirdness comes out:

For six years now I have 'known' (in the sense that deep inside of me there is an awareness of a strong truth, that on the surface, and in my rational mind, makes no sense and is regularly doubted) that I have met the man I was always destined to partner with. When this truth struck me, one crazy evening when the sky turned to rose pink and God SPOKE, I knew, beyond doubt, that I'd been searching for him across lifetimes and that I was beyond blessed to have found him in this one. His re-emergence explained every feeling I'd lived with through all of my years that told me I was missing something, that a part of me was lost or asleep. With this truth, I remembered that I was The Universe experiencing itself and that ultimately we are all ONE, and at OUR HEART, all LOVE.

Now the complication with this truth, and the reason I battle with (at times extreme) doubt and mistrust, is that for years now this has appeared to be my truth alone, and not his. Fortunately, as is the nature of an Aquarian theme, I am not alone in my experience. There is a label for it:

The Twin Flame Journey

This is a divisive subject, and one that tends to be difficult to explain to those who haven't found themselves on the journey. I say 'found themselves' for good reason, as it also tends to be a journey that hits you like a thunderbolt out of the blue. I probably don't need to explain a great deal to those who resonate with it, if you've found yourself here then no doubt you've voraciously sought out as much information as you can find about it already. So for those that don't know what it is, this is a simplified overview of it drawn from information in the popular public domain.

The concept of a 'twin flame journey' is rooted in spiritual and metaphysical beliefs. It's important to note that views on twin flames vary widely, and the concept is not universally accepted.

1. Definition: The idea of twin flames suggests that each person has a divine counterpart, often referred to as their 'twin flame'. This is believed to be a soul connection that goes beyond the usual romantic or platonic relationships. My perspective: My twin soul is another being, incarnate on this earth, with the exact same energy frequency as me. He has the same unique soul energy signature, the same energetic resonance (tone), as my own. The twin flame is an energy which is activated within us when we encounter and recognise our twin.

2. Soul Connection: Twin flames are thought to share a deep, spiritual connection that transcends time and space. It is said that these souls were once united and then split into two separate bodies, each carrying a part of the original soul, or that these souls were 'born' from the same source at the same time and as such share a soul signature or frequency (just like identical twins share the same original DNA).

3. Purpose: The purpose of the twin flame journey is often seen as a path of self-discovery, personal growth, and spiritual awakening. It is believed that meeting one's twin flame can trigger a series of events that lead to profound changes in one's life.

4. Challenges and Mirroring: The journey is often described as challenging, with both individuals mirroring each other's strengths and weaknesses. This mirroring is thought to be a way for each person to confront and overcome their own issues and challenges.

5. Union and Separation: The twin flame journey is often characterised by periods of union and separation. During the periods of separation, individuals are believed to work on themselves and grow spiritually, preparing for eventual reunion with their twin flame.

6. Spiritual Evolution: Proponents of the twin flame concept often emphasise the idea of spiritual evolution and ascension. The journey is seen as a means of reaching higher states of consciousness and understanding.

It's essential to approach these concepts with an open mind and recognise that beliefs about twin flames are highly personal and can vary widely. Some people find comfort and guidance in these ideas, while others may view them as purely speculative or metaphysical. As with any spiritual or metaphysical concept, it's crucial to explore and interpret these ideas in a way that resonates with your own beliefs and experiences.

Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, and Saturn is God of challenge to grow. The personal journey I have embarked on since meeting this man that I 'know' and can 'see' a future with, has led me through my inner world and to the truth of who I am. It's led me to learn more than I could possibly have imagined and showed me how little I know. It has been my own, perfectly designed, heroes journey which has catalysed undeniable transformation of my self and how I experience the world at large. His role, as denier of my truth, has been essential for me to learn to navigate my self and to arrive at a place of trust and safety in and for my self. This has been my journey. And I had to navigate it alone.

Saturn, as ruler of Capricorn and Aquarius, sits on the precipice of the known and the unknown. To our naked eye, Saturn is the farthest God, the father, teaching us that there are limitations but there is also something beyond our limitations. There is always more to discover, more to learn, more to understand. We always have the capacity to learn and grow and discover.

Every journey occurs both within, and without. The inner journey informs the outer. Some say it creates the outer. So as we break free of our own limitations and the confines of what we know and understand, we free ourselves to experience something new and unknown.

'Love is an unfinished revolution'. Perhaps we have yet to see what's possible in love and relationship? Perhaps this journey is ongoing? Perhaps the future of love and relationships on Earth is as yet unknown?

My journey is unfinished. And the outcome, the destination, is as yet, unknown.

And that's my Venus in Aquarius. I look forward to where it will take me next.
