- 'The Work'
For anyone who has stepped a toe into the world of spiritual practice or is on a quest to better themselves, there is always a lot of talk about doing 'the work', but what is 'the work' and how do you 'do' it? work NOUN activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result: "he was tired after a day's work" · "work is still going on in fitting out a new store" SIMILAR: labour toil exertion effort drudgery industry In this case the 'work' is applied to the self and to the act of 'becoming one's true self'. It's helpful to bring in Carl Jung and his concept of individuation.... The Alchemy of Becoming: The Self-Work Work. A word that tastes of sweat and long hours, of hands worn raw against the edges of effort. A thing done to survive, to build, to create. But what of the work done within? The chiselling away of falsehoods, the excavation of wounds, the slow, deliberate art of becoming? That work - the work of the soul - is the most relentless, the most profound. It asks everything of you. It is Carl Jung’s great opus: individuation, the painstaking process of becoming whole. It is grief and liberation. It is meeting yourself, fully, without flinching. But why do it? Because without it, you live at the mercy of the past. Because healing isn't just about relief - it’s about reclamation. It’s about stepping into life with clarity, with wholeness. To love without losing yourself. To live without the weight of what was dictating what will be. And for those walking the path of twin flames, self-work is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Self-work isn’t optional - it’s the foundation. The relationship itself, whether close or distant (in union or in separation), is only the mirror. And so, if you are willing, if you are brave, here is a map. But know this: the journey is not linear . You will return to these steps again and again, each time peeling back another layer, each time meeting a deeper version of yourself. The Steps Step 1: Acknowledge the Need for Healing The wound is where the light enters, says Rumi. But first, you must see the wound. Strip away the distraction, the denial, the stories told to numb the ache. What hurts? Where do you shrink? Where do you rage? This is your starting point. Step 2: Peel Back the Layers You are not who you were told to be. You are not your trauma. You are not the sum of the wounds you have endured. So peel back the layers - the conditioned responses, the inherited fears, the roles played for acceptance. Who are you beneath the masks? The answer will shake you, but it will also set you free. Step 3: Cultivate Unconditional Love Look into the mirror - not just at your face but into your soul. Love what you see, even when it’s raw, even when it’s ugly. Your twin flame reflects all of it back to you: the divine, the wounded, the hidden. Love yourself through it. This is the hardest thing you will ever do. On one side of the paper, write down everything you associate with the traumatic event or feeling. Be as detailed as possible. Describe the feeling in your body: Where do you feel it? Is it heavy, tight, hot, cold? Reflect on how the event has repeated in your life: What are the patterns? Identify the people involved: Who has played a role in this trauma? Ask yourself why you believe this event has occurred: What lessons or messages might it hold? 3 Connecting with the Emotion Sit quietly and read over what you have written. Are we just puppets on strings? Contrary to popular opinion among the some of the twins frequenting the forums, we all have free will . If we’re not exercising that free will because we feel entrapped or bound to something or someone, that doesn’t mean we don’t have it. It just means that we don’t realise we have it, and haven’t chosen to exercise it and remove ourselves from our binds. Yes, the twin flame journey can feel like a bind. We feel indelibly connected to this person and desire only them, no one else can possibly feel the same. And because of these overwhelming feelings that they are the only one for us and who we are destined to be with, it feels like we have no choice but to wait, to suffer alone, to watch our beloved pair up with another. But what almost everyone fails to remember, is that this is supposed to be a divine journey. A journey to freedom and authenticity and truth. A journey to sovereignty. Rather than questioning whether someone is our twin and what said twin thinks about us, why don’t we ask why God/Goddess (as our divine Mother and Father) would want us trapped/waiting/suffering? What’s divine about that? How is that awakened? How is that in alignment with Universal Will? We live in a universe governed by the law of attraction. As long as we feel ourselves ‘trapped’ (substitute the word destined or fated if you wish), we will continue to create that reality. We will continue to wait and suffer, while our twin merrily gets on with their lives. Ask yourself seriously. Do you want that? Does that feel divine to you? Is that what you’d choose for yourself? If the answer is no then maybe the next question is to ask, what can you do about it? Feeling bound to someone, even if a magical sounding term is applied to it and we talk about destiny and fate, is a form of co-dependency. There’s nothing unconditional about it. It’s a feeling born of our wounds, wounds we’ve gathered in this lifetime and others. It is a prison. Just as real as one with bars and a warden holding a key. What we fail to remember is that we are the warden and we hold the key . How do we free ourselves from co-dependency? It’s a process. It involved serious and dedicated self work and it takes time and effort. This is why the twin flame journey is not for the faint of heart. It’s not because we’re supposed to sit and wait and forever be in pain, it’s because we have to do the difficult things like face our fears and dive into our shadows. We have to uncover all our early programming and slowly remove ourselves from the chains that imprison us until we are free. Turn it around for a moment: would you want your twin to be forced into a relationship with you? Could you ever feel truly loved and desired if you knew they had no choice in the matter? Do you think they want to feel like you were forced? That you didn’t necessarily even want to be with them? That you had no choice? What sort of foundation is that for a divine and conscious relationship? How is that good for anyone? You have a choice. When you choose to do the work to free yourself from all your programming and heal yourself from all your wounds, when you learn to truly love and respect yourself, you will attract your twin to you. They will choose you because YOU HAVE CHOSEN YOURSELF. They are you. It’s the most important thing to learn on the journey. If they are not interested in you what does that tell you? Could it be that YOU aren’t interested in you? If they don’t think you’re the best choice for a relationship with them what does that tell you? Do you think YOU ARE worthy of their choice? You have the choice. You can choose you, and you can choose them. But don’t make the mistake of thinking you have no choice in the matter. If they aren’t someone you would choose for yourself, or you are endlessly waiting and they don’t seem to care or show any signs of reciprocating your perception of the connection, then maybe it’s time to choose something else for yourself? The universe will support you to do what’s best for you. The universe does not want you imprisoned. The universe wants you free to be your best self and live your best life. The truth of the matter is that we don't . And being attached to the idea that they will is another block in the journey that will keep you stuck. There are no certainties in life. What is much more important to focus on, is your well-being and personal growth . Believing that your happiness solely depends on someone else's return will keep you stuck. We cannot know if our Twin Flame will return. We may or may not be delusional. What if learning this is a part of what the Twin Flame Journey is all about? This is the journey of life: We lose those we love and we can't imagine how we'll move on and find happiness again. We feel as if we have lost a part of ourselves and will be incomplete forevermore. Every single human being is facing an unknown. We have to find peace in that truth. We have to learn to trust that the love that is meant for us will return in one form or another. We can't hold onto the past. We don't know the future. We just have to find a way to be comfortable in the present with what is. And know that this, as it is, is enough. How do we achieve this? How do we let them go and choose ourselves instead? The Power of Acceptance in The Twin Flame Journey If we desire change in our current circumstances, first we must accept what is: 𝟭 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹. You love them. You want a relationship with them. Their absence is the most painful thing you’ve ever experienced. You are angry. You are frightened. You are confused. You are delighted. You are grateful. All your feelings are valid. All your feelings are acceptable. 𝟮 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲. The twin flame concept is nuts (let’s face it). Believing you are uniquely tied to another person is crazy. Believe it anyway. This needs to be embodied. The world will show you what you believe by reflecting it back to you. If you have any doubt then others will doubt you. When you’ve embodied it, if you tell someone you are a twin flame and have met your twin they will believe you without question. My best advice when clearing your heart or going through any challenging time 1 Everything that you are experiencing is both because of you and for you . Learn to see the deeper meaning and purpose in both the (perceived) positive and negative experiences you have. 2 All the answers you need, to every question that arises, are within you. 3 Make yourself the focus. Focus on getting to know yourself. 4 Everything we have experienced is stored in our energetic body and our physical body (our heart included) is the conduit between our energy and our mind. Feelings are how our body talks to us. We tell ourselves what we need to know. Use the negative experiences you have to teach you about who you are and what you need and learn to listen to your body. Series of questions: What am I feeling? Where am I feeling this in my body? Can I label the feeling? E.g. angry, disappointed, frustrated… Have I felt this before? When have I felt this before? Is there a similar experience/story? How far does that experience go back? Is there a root experience that I’m now repeating over and over again? 5 Start every day with the awareness that it is new. It is an adventure and anything can happen. Ask to be guided to what you need and trust that it’s all for your good. Even when it feels hard. At the end of the day put that day to bed. Spend a little time reflecting but then ask for the day to be over so you can rest fully for a new one to begin again tomorrow.
